Začala druhá fáza prípravy na MS:
Len dva dni mali na oslavu novopečení majstri Slovenska Milan Hruška a Michal Sersen z bratislavského Slovana. V pondelok na obed sa už budú hlásiť reprezentačnému trénerovi Júliusovi Šuplerovi na zraze reprezentácie pred druhou fázou záverečnej prípravy pred majstrovstvami sveta v Kanade.
Okrem dvoch slovanistov doplnia už predtým nominovaných hráčov aj dvaja vicemajstri Slovenska Michel Miklík a Stanislav Gron z Košíc a pozvánku do prípravy pred MS dostal aj útočník švédskeho Leksandu Róbert Petrovický. "Viem, že slovanisti majú v pondelok popoludní naplánovanú akciu s fanúšikmi v meste. Keď obaja chalani prídu na obed na zraz, dohodneme sa na ďalšom postupe," povedal reprezentačný tréner Július Šupler.
Nedostatok stredných útočníkov (ospravedlnila sa dvojica z NHL Stümpel a Handzuš a pre zranenie vypadol Surový zo Švédska - pozn.) sa rozhodol tréner Šupler riešiť povolaním centra švédskeho Leksandu IF Róberta Petrovického. Skúsený stredný útočník naposledy obliekol reprezentačný dres vo februárovom víťaznom prípravnom zápase vo Švédsku, kde sa stopercentne zhostil úlohy kapitána - bol neprehliadnuteľný na ľade a dokázal vytvoriť výbornú atmosféru v kabíne.
Z dvadsaťčlenného kádra, ktorý sa od pondelka do piatka pripravoval v Kežmarku, sa do ďalšej prípravy už nezapoja brankár Trenčína Vladimír Kováč a obrancovia Skalice Adam Beňa a Martin Gründling.
Do druhej fázy prípravy sa zapojí dvanásť nových hráčov. Reprezentačnému trénerovi Júliusovi Šuplerovi sa v prvý deň nového týždňa bude hlásiť aj trojica z NHL - obrancovia Branislav Mezei (Florida), Andrej Sekera (Buffalo) a útočník Marcel Hossa (Phoenix), ako aj Trenčan Peter Húževka, švajčiarsky vicemajster Juraj Kolník (Servette Ženeva), člen mužstva nového švajčiarskeho majstra Zürich Lions Peter Sejna a ako sparing do bránky mladý gólman Popradu Marcel Melicherčík.
V rámci druhej fázy prípravy odohrajú Slováci vo štvrtok 17. apríla v Skalici aj prípravný zápas s Lotyšskom.
